Important Message from Superintendent Rubin

This message was originally sent out via email on Wednesday, January 20.

As a follow-up to the district wide safety meeting on January 5, I wanted to share with you that we are moving forward in creating our district safety team. I am excited to announce that Mandy Braun will be heading up that team as our new Director of Safety and Security with an official start date of July 1, 2016. The Board of Education supports and takes very seriously our efforts to keep our students and staff members as safe as possible, and I know all of you do as well.

Since Mandy will be taking on this new role, it leaves us with an opportunity to re-think our current administrative structure at the Englewood Campus. We are currently working with leadership to explore all ways in which we can be fiscally responsible and best support our students’ overall well-being and academic achievement. More information about this restructuring will be sent out once it is available.

As always, thank you for all you do for our students and our district each day.

If you are interested in signing up to be part of the district-wide safety committee, you may do so here.

Contribute Your Voice to the Future of Englewood Schools

Here are three ways that you can help contribute your voice to the future of Englewood Schools. Fill out a quick core values survey, then decide if you want to join the Facilities Long-Range Planning Committee or the District-Wide Safety and Security Committee.

Core Values Survey (Time commitment: 5 minutes)

Since taking on the role of Superintendent of Englewood Schools, Wendy Rubin has been meeting with Parent Teacher Organizations, School Accountability Committees, and staff members in an effort to begin long-range, strategic planning. The first step in making a strategic plan is understanding what our community values most. In her meetings with these groups, each individual was asked to write down the core values they think most represent the foundation of our work in service to students, our community and one another. The most commonly listed values are listed in the survey. We are asking you to help us narrow this list even further by selecting the FIVE most important core values that you feel represent Englewood Schools. We appreciate your feedback!

Facilities Long-Range Planning Committee (Time commitment: Ongoing)

The Englewood Schools’ Facilities Long-Range Planning Committee will serve in an advisory capacity to district administration and the Englewood Schools’ Board of Education. This group will be tasked with the study of community and school demographic information as it impacts the school district. Additional work will include examination of facilities and property owned by Englewood Schools and how these facilities and properties can best factor into the future of Englewood Schools as a school district where all students belong and thrive. The committee will be empaneled no later than mid-February, 2016. Members should expect a bi-weekly commitment through the spring of 2016, with the potential of moving to once-monthly meetings beginning fall of 2016.

If you are interested in serving on this committee, please fill out the form here. Please sign up by Monday, February 1 in order to be considered.

Safety and Security Committee (Time commitment: Ongoing)

As mentioned in previous communications, we are convening a district-wide Safety and Security Committee to begin safety planning and action steps for Englewood Schools. If you are interested in serving on this district-level safety and security committee, please fill out the form here.  You will be notified in early February if you are selected to serve.  Ideally, membership will come from each school site as well as from departments.

Englewood Schools has been a Google Apps for Education District for a number of years now. But we have a number of new staff and others who need some professional development on how to use Google apps for teaching and learning. This series is focused on teacher use of Google Apps with students. Nonetheless, all staff are welcome to participate. These are hands-on classes so bring your laptops/iPads. Relicensure credit will be offered for each session except June's. These are optional sessions. Attend as few or as many as you need. If registered participants exceed room capacity, a second session will be scheduled.

To register for a session, just find the event on the 2015-16 District Professional Development Calendar at http://www.englewoodschools.net/Page/4188. Then click on the event – more details. Then below the session description, find the attached link to the registration form, click on it, fill it out, and submit. You can also copy the event to your calendar. From within the details of the event, click on more actions – copy to [your calendar]. Alternatively, you can click on the event below to take you directly to the registration form for that session. These sessions will be team-taught by teachers and Technology Department staff. We hope to see you there. (There will be chocolate!)
